School board members in Miami have won their battle to remove a children’s book from the shelves of Miami-Dade school libraries because they said the book presented an inaccurate picture of life in Cuba.
On Monday, the US Supreme Court declined to take up the case of “Vamos a Cuba” – the little book that sparked a big controversy over alleged censorship in Miami.
The action lets stand a 2-1 ruling by the 11th US Circuit Court of Appeals that the school board’s decision to remove the book was not censorship in violation of the First Amendment. Instead, the Atlanta-based appeals court said the school board was seeking to remove the book because it contained substantial factual inaccuracies.
Thank you, Cuban-Americans
I have written on this. See, “Cert Denied: Vamos a Cuba; Cuban-Americans Lead Way for Districts to Back Parents Rights Against ALA/ACLU False Claims of Banning and Censorship.”
I especially love the joy in the voices of those who through off the ALA/ACLU yoke, especially in contrast to the false cries of censorship from the ACLU predicting national doom. I show both in my blog post.
Can you believe the ALA actually opposed the “Right to Apply Accuracy” in public schools?

not a moment too soon
Dan,
Your belief in an ALA/ACLU “yoke” makes me think you are the “ideal” partner for my real estate business. Send me a check for $500 for, you know, fees and whatnot, and I totally promise you a huge return. I’m going to need a check routing number and your SSN, too. It will totally make the ALA furious if you send me your check routing number and SSN. The only thing that will stop Judith Krug / ALA / ACLU from turning our kids into child prostitutes through pornographic books about gay penguins is if you give me your check routing number and SSN. Don’t let America down, Dan. Follow your instincts. Make it out to “cash.”
Oh, God! I’ve said too much! Here they coxdfcgxxxxxch fhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Given the grade level of the
Given the grade level of the book and the fact that its meant for little ones one has to wonder just how graphic the parents want the book to be. Should the book have talked about atrocities complete with pen and ink drawings of executions? Should the schools instead get some snuff films from Castros security forces so that kids 4-8 can be terrified of Cubans in general?
I am sorry for the fact that the parent of one of the kids at that school was a political prisoner (or at least claims to have been its pretty much impossible to confirm such a claim) but when it comes down to my 4-8 year old I am perfectly alright with “People in Cuba eat, work, and go to school like you do.” By and large for kids this young that is all you need to say about Cuba. Kids that age are not ready for talk of torture and/or imprisonment….save that for when they get a tad older for god’s sake.
As to Dan and your “blog” please peddle your crap elsewhere you annoy rather then inform and I have more then enough of that crap in my every day life without your sanctimonious claptrap.
