The NYTimes Has A Story on the Open Publication License (opencontent.org).

Prentice Hall is publishing a line of computer books with the license.
Such practices make most publishers cringe and call their lawyers. But Prentice Hall, acknowledging the risk of lost sales, says the experiment is a worthwhile attempt to earn good will and gain readers among the growing ranks of programmers who work with open-source software like Linux and the Apache Web server.
