In some cases, libraries in the Helderberg that only employ one staff member are regularly forced to close when that official falls ill or for some reason is unable to carry out duties.

Last week, the Friends of the Nelson Mandela Library handed a petition to Cape Town executive deputy mayor Andrew Arnolds at the Civic Centre in Cape Town, demanding to know what is being done to rectify the crisis in local libraries.”
