Microsoft’s trying to generate buzz for its new search engine with a live-action sexy librarian character with an attitude. Ms. Dewey is her name. Sean Cole paid her a visit and found her hard to leave. Story here

    Not Linux Friendly

    I guess, given she’s from Microsoft, I shouldn’t be surprised. (Don’t let the Novell-Microsoft collaboration hype fool you.) But when I try to visit Ms. Dewey on my Linux box, MS tells me I need Flash 8. They don’t make that for Linux, alas (thanks, Adobe.) If I click that I have it anyway, I just get “Ms. Dewey is loading…” forever and ever. If I take the blue pill, I mean, click the other link, it tries to make me download Flash 7… again.

    I guess there’s no Ms. Dewey for me. I think Ms. Raganathan would have been cooler, honestly. I mean, Dewey’s so wickedly predictable!

    I don’t know what’s up with Ms. Dewey, however, everytime I try to load the page msdewey.com, she loads part way and then freezes. I’ve tried in both opera and IE7 (*shudder*), I have the latest version of flash but still nada, she just stands there pointing her finger in the air….but not pushing that bar along.

    But you know what? I think we need a “Mr. Dewey” and I’m NOT talking Melvil. Some hot hunk for the ladies (and gentlemen of that persausion) to interact with. You know, it isn’t ALL men out there on the net.

    a good gimmick
    She loves non-sequiturs and she seems a bit tightly wound, as if she could use a couple of sessions of yoga. I asked her why her dress was so low-cut and she replied that it was “couture”…thought that was pretty funny. But her response to why we are at war in Iraq was baffling.
