An Anonymous Patron writes “Smallest ‘unofficial’ presidential library big on Atchison The smallest library celebrates one day in history between the presidencies of Alexander Polk and Zachary Taylor that fell on a Sunday. According to political folklore, President Taylor refused to take the oath on the Sabbath, so the presidential responsibility fell on the Senate Pro-Temp, Sen. Atchison, unceremoniously in the history books.
During a dedication of the small presidential library exhibit, Atchison Mayor Dan Garrity proclaimed that Sen. Atchison was one of the most able of his time.”
