Blake writes “Interesting Slashdot Thread on Net Publishing Made Profitable, an article over at Wired. After 13 years of experimenting, veteran Net publisher Adam Engst has finally stumbled on a good business model — fast-turnaround e-books. Since last fall, Engst has published a series of rapidly produced e-books using a system he calls “extreme publishing.””

    He isn’t the first successful one…
    Okay, I’m not sure who IS the first successful e-book publisher, but I do know that publishers in other niche markets, like Ellora’s Cave for erotic romances, have been doing business for close to three years or more and are doing very well. EC also inked a contract at BEA this year with the Borders Group for the BG to carry EC print books in their stores for wider visibility. All EC books are in electronic format first. And, they pay their authors a 37.5% royalty.
