Shakespeare defamed MacBeth

    Since he did this with Richard III, as is pretty well known by now, this news should come as no surprise. Dorothy Dunnet wrote an excellent novel about Macbeth,

      King Hereafter

    which is a little closer to the truth.

    I loved King Hereafter — but some of her theories are unusual, too. She may be the first to propose that Macbeth and Thorfinn (earl of Orkney) are one and the same.

    A couple of history books written since then mention Dunnett’s ideas and also disprove almost all of the circumstances in Shakespeare’s play. (this would be a good place to cite them… hmm)
