School Libraries glad to get settlement checks

While he still needs to deal with the paperwork, Marlborough Library Director Sal Genovese knew better than to look a gift horse in the mouth when a state offer of $300 for music supplies and programming recently landed on his desk. “It’s just one of those things that suddenly appeared,” Genovese said. “It just means I can extend my budget. That’s a no-brainer.” The money comes from a settlement reached by Massachusetts and other states after they filed a class-action lawsuit against music distributors, their affiliated record labels and several large retailers over alleged CD price fixing.
