Scheduled Film on Iran Cancelled at Ottawa National Library

From Canada’s National Post: Emergency crews and a hazardous materials team have responded to a threat at Ottawa’s National Library and Archives, where a controversial film on Iran was set to be screened Tuesday night.

Authorities shut down the building on Wellington Street, near Bay Street, about 5:15 p.m. ET after an alleged threat.

The film Iranium, which is critical of Iran’s leadership and nuclear program, was scheduled to be screened at the library, but it was cancelled about 4 p.m.

Fred Litwin, who organized the screening several months ago through the Free Thinking Film Society of Ottawa, said library officials had considered cancelling the showing as late as Monday due to its subject matter. However, Litwin said, the library gave him the OK to screen it earlier Tuesday.

When he arrived at the building on Tuesday he was told the screening had been cancelled because of protesters inside and outside the building.
