Public library solicits support in online venues

NoOne writes “Full Story on The Oakland Public Library, with 15 branches and a rising rate of book borrowing, saw its budget threatened with the shredder on Jan. 18. That’s when the Oakland City Council proposed closing branches and slashing the acquisition of new materials.
The library did what any self-respecting community-based organization under siege would do: It campaigned for donations online. Its message was picked up and disseminated through so many online avenues that it has received more than 600 volumes of reading material from donors worldwide. “
