Public library director writes the book on etiquette

    What is pornography anyway?
    “No one — not children, other patrons or staff — wants to see your “private life.””

    This seems like a very judgmental statement. Who is the library director to say what one should or should not view on public computers. I think she needs sensitivity training.

    You obviously are a person of privacy yourself, choosing to be “Anonymous Patron.” The Librarian knows what the “others” do NOT wish to see and is commenting on that, not what the porn viewer is choosing. I thought the letter was so practical and full of common sense, I almost couldn’t believe it got in print.

    I made 10 copies and passed them out to all the staff at the library that were working today. We all wholeheartedy agree with all the points in the letter.

    We have all also experienced several, if not all of the behaviors mentioned.

    Too bad the cell phone toting, computer (only) reading public will never see it.

    Surely some of these things are covered by the rules of the library.
    If cellphones are being used, kick them out, if pornography (which is defined) isn’t allowed then kick them out.

    All those things are awful for the library staff but some of it can be solved by actually enforcing library rules. Now having the money and the ability to actually do this is, of course, another matter.

    But if they are not mentioned in the rules I guess they need changing or
