Protesters crash library kickoff event

twistedlibrarian writes “PORTSMOUTH – Protesters greeted city officials who turned out at the former Portsmouth Armory on Friday for an event designed to educate the public about how the city will dismantle the building in order to make way for a 38,000-square-foot library at 175 Parrott Ave.

More than 20 residents – some holding picket signs that read “Get the Right Site” – showed up for the event and stood vigil outside and inside the building. The rally was the latest display of the long-standing schism between officials and residents who are upset over not only the decision to build a library at the site but the process officials followed on their way to that decision.
