    It’s worth pointing out that it’s the Princeton bookstore that’s doing this, not Princeton itself.

    it’s maybe also worth pointing out that I think most people don’t have issues with ebooks per se. I can think of many classes for which an ebook would be preferential to a print textbook. However, they are acting like a downloaded book — one that expires, one that only can be saved on one computer, one that can’t be resold, is somehow worth — has only slightly less value to the consumer than one that has all those abilities and I just think that’s wrong.

      I agree with Ed Felten, let this project sink or swim on its own merits, but as soon as one professor says “you have to buy my book from blahblahblah e-textbook company, there is no print version” it will be interesting to see what people’s opinions on it are. Textbooks have always been a bit of a “where else are you going to go?” racket, this is another example.
