Anonymous Patron writes “This is London reports what may be the most shocking story of 2005. Victoria Beckham (You may know her as Posh Spice) says she has never actually read a book.
She told a Spanish journalist that she prefers magazines and music.
‘I haven’t read a book in my life,’ she said. ‘I haven’t got enough time. I prefer to listen to music, although I do love fashion magazines.'”
Posh Spice: I’ve never read a book
Gosh, Posh–I don’t think someone who has never read a book should have a book published–and an autobiography, no less? Did she write with her eyes closed? Hmm… Next she’ll be joining Madonna and writing children’s books.
Sigh
I am willing to bet her children grow up to be ignorant twits, I have never seen children from a anti-book household become anything else.
Growing up in a crime infested, high unemployment area showed me over and over again that parents that paid attention, and encouraged things like reading were the single most important tool of child development. All those friends of mine who grew up in houses without bookshelves really do not enjoy working at 7-11.
Parents should read with their children
I think celebrities have to set an good example in all aspects of life because they are in the public eye and so many people look up to them and follow what they do. Moreover, they have to be good examples to their children. And reading is something that all parents should do for the healthy development of the child. Parents should engage in this important activity with their children. The importance cannot be stressed enough. Even if the parents are not bookworms, they should read with their children.
