Piracy Hits New Low

Aaron Swartz has helped out with the marketing and promotion of Lawrence Lessig’s new book, “Free Culture,” by uploading it as a wiki. Here’s Aaron’s press release. Free Culture is copyrighted under the Creative Commons License, which means that it is available for non-commercial reproduction.

    Just so we’re clear:
    The “April 1” aspect of this is Aaron’s press release (which is quite well done).

    Lessig’s use of the CC license (which makes sense, seeing as how he’s a founder of Creative Commons) for the book, and clear admiration for those who’ve made the book available in a variety of ways (including chapter-by-chapter spoken words), is for real. Almost certainly, the various free forms will lead to increased sales of the print book.

    Always good to see someone who has the courage of their own convictions; Lessig does.
