Oxford University Libraries Join Fight Against Govt. Censorship

Oxford University has thrown its weight behind a campaign to amend the government’s controversial new terror laws after top librarians warned that the legislation could spell the end of free access to information. Oxford librarians are concerned that the terror laws could force them to withdraw books from public access and that students could be prosecuted for lending terrorist books to a friend.     Because, heaven forbid we actually read anything written by a terrorist group, to get an idea of how they see the world.

    Wanting to understand how others see the world is the root of all evil! We must, at all costs, prevent university students from learning how others see the world!

    Free access with responsiblity
    Debate on censorship is like debate on religion or politics. There can be no agreement. It boils down to this. It is quite simple. If one does not like this new terrorism law, then vote the government out at the next election. If the opposition supports this law, then don’t vote for them either. Show you don’t like them both and vote for independents! Yet Blair has been voted how many times now? The people must like him and his party! They can’t complain! Now, any freedom comes with responsibility. Free access to information is no different. Let’s stress the responsibility as much as the right to access.

    I think David you are describeing a “bomb” book… a terrorist book is any book “government security services” say is a terrorist book….otherwise it is too difficult to imagine what it might be.
