Not sure why, but for some reason, the Ottawa Sun demanded that librarian Barb Clubb (Chief Librarian at the Ottawa Public Library and current President of CLA) reveal information on travel costs of librarians to conferences (IFLA, etc.)in the past year. Seems Clubb and the paper are having some sort of dispute about making that information available to the public.
Here’s the Ottawa Sun’s side of things…we welcome any information on Clubb’s p.o.v.. Canadian librarians, is your local paper giving you trouble on travel and expense issues?
What the …?
How….weird, unless it’s the tip of a deeper story. Regardless, what info she did give didn’t seem terribly out of line. I wonder if other public-funded organizations, such as schools and social services are being targeted. I know those folks participate in professional development as well. In the US, I would think that such info would be a matter of public record, as it’s part of a city or county’s budget. I’m curious to hear the rest of the story.
Re:What the …?
Here and here a little back story on the librarian and the board member, Royal Galipeau. He sounds like a galloping pita to me.
Re:What the …?
It sounds like Clubb needs to tell how she spends the library’s money. It is a taxpayer funded library, they have a right to know.
It seems to me that Clubb is in the wrong here and that the Councillor is just being a responsible public official.
Re:What the …?
It’s a long-standing feud, looks like. From Wikipedia: Talk:Royal Galipeau .
