Official ‘Harry Potter’ Book Hits Shelves In China

The pirated version has been around for months, but China has now distributed some 800,000 copies of an official Chinese edition of the latest Harry Potter book.

The English version of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” was released in July and an unauthorized Chinese translation came out two weeks later. It had some missing paragraphs and got a couple of facts wrong. Impatient fans also posted their own translations online.

The new official version hit hundreds of Chinese bookstores on Saturday.

The official Xinhua News Agency reports that People’s Literature Publishing House, the authorized publisher, used “a special kind of green paper as the cover and employed state-of-the art technology” in an attempt to thwart book pirates.
