Cortez writes “IU, Harvard & the LOC are in the initial phase of digitizing some unusual audio collections: Reports indystar.com “The vault at the IU archives is found in the basement of Morrison Hall — the same building that’s home to the university’s famed Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction. Recordings ranging from wax cylinders to steel wire and even cardboard discs are stored in shelving that closes tight when not in use.
The archives were founded in 1948, and the content dates from the 1890s to the present.
Harvard’s Archive of World Music, meanwhile, was established in 1976 and specializes in recordings from the Middle East and Asia.””
