No Pension for Convicted Library Director

BEVERLY MA — The former director of Beverly’s library who was convicted of child pornography charges has lost his latest bid to keep his public pension. A Superior Court judge this week rejected an appeal by Thomas Scully to collect the $37,000-a-year pension.

Judge Richard Welch III said in his ruling that the Beverly Contributory Retirement Board and a lower court judge were correct in concluding that Scully’s conviction on two child pornography charges in 2005 could be linked to his job, triggering a state law that allows the forfeiture of pensions in such cases.
