“The collection filled 26 boxes. Among the thousands of items in the boxes are his bulging Rolodex file, opened to the number of his favorite saloon, the Billy Goat Tavern; piles of his cigarette butts; Carl Sandburg’s hat tree; and clips of nearly 8,000 newspaper columns, every column Royko wrote over four decades at three Chicago papers–the Daily News, Sun-Times and Tribune.””
