    share your lesson plans?
    Why would anyone share their lesson plans with Google? Shouldn’t Google be the ones providing lesson plans to us, like most commercial information providers do already? (Not that we necessarily use them, but they can be helpful).

    Cold embrace
    Google is one of my closest friends, but they don’t seem to know much about my profession. (Note, I am leaving alone Morville’s expectations of “traditional librarians”.)

    OK, I could not “share” my lesson plans with Google even if I wished. They are the property of my former employer under “work for hire.” Even if I still worked there, I wouldn’t want to negotiate the bureaucratic labyrinth to get permission. Besides, I have not forgiven the last vendor who took a copy of one of my PowerPoint presentations and placed it on their website without asking or a credit! Nevermind. I did learn that lesson.

    I was also twigged because on the intro screen it says there will be a quarterly newsletter, but the Google Groups page says it will be monthly. (Oh, the former serials management person grinds her teeth.) Then, looking at the Groups setting, I thought that if Google wanted to embrace librarians, offering an “announce only” newsletter is pretty cold. I am unsure if Web 2.0 is amoral, but for me to cozy up to a vendor, conversation is the way to go.

    I am at a loss here. What could this proposed newsletter have to offer? Is there some kind of help or assistance that Google has been withholding? The wording on their page sounds so earnest and enthusiastic it makes me vaguely suspicious.
