New book explores seamy side of nursery rhymes

The Associated Press reports on a book that examines the seedy underbelly of nursery rhymes. Chris Roberts, author of the forthcoming “Heavy Words Thrown Lightly,” psychoanalyzed dozens of nursery rhymes for sexual content, and found it. Among the entries are the possibly amorous adventures of Jack and Jill, and a new claim that the rhyme “Goosey, goosey, gander” may have been a not-so-veiled reference to venereal disease.
