*Unfortunately, the LA Times does require registration. This might be a good time to see if your library has database access to its archive. Try Newsbank or ProQuest.

If a newspaper allows people to read it online for free, why do they require readers to register? Also, why was this not tagged as such when the link was posted in the first place. I would have like to have read the full letter, but I refuse to waste time registering on a site where I many never visit it again.

Mea culpa! I actually intended to put a note indicating that registration was required, but I forgot. I’ve since changed the post.
