mdoneil writes “The antiquarian book dealer/NARA intern who sold purloined irreplacable Civil War documents from the National Archives has entered a guilty plea to the charge of stealing government property. While he could be sentenced to ten years. However sentencing guidelines call for much less. (Albeit this librarian calls for the maximum.)
All but three of the documents were recovered, most from eBay buyers and historians who when told the documents were ill gotten readily returned to their rightful owner, the People of the United States of America, thus demonstrating decidedly more ethical behavior than this miscreant MLS.
Read more about it at my local cable news station.”
punishment
Wouldn’t it be great if he could be stripped of his degree like they’d rip the stripes off the arm of a disgraced soldier?
“For conduct unbecoming and detrimental to the Sisterhood (RIIIIIIIIIIIP) you are hereby stripped of your library degree and title of “librarian.” “
Then they have Jet Li’s librarian character from “Black Mask” work his punk ass over.
Re:punishment
Sisterhood??!! Did I join a Sisterhood when I got my MLS? They really should’ve told me before I started school.
Sentencing guidelines
From the story:
He could receive up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine when he is sentenced July 12, but federal sentencing guidelines call for much less.
I think the reporter does not understand the guidelines. They set a minimum and a maximum. I think the second sentence above would be more correct if it said something to the effect of what the minimum sentence is. The guidelines do not call for less they allow for less. The guidelines provide a range that the judge can select from.
