Plus, links take you to “newspaper and magazine articles, detective reports, photographs and other items that contain clues to the mystery,” according to the publisher. What an apt use of the Net–as an outlet for original content, not just reproductions of existing books.

    Well
    While this is interesting, the fact that it has been done before by dinosaur-sized authors like Stephen King takes some of the “WOW” factor out of the equation.

    What I find interesting is that people are being “discovered” by writing fanfiction and being given contracts.

    Fanfic writers are practising their craft just the way other writers do. The difference is that their earlier, usually poorer, efforts are out there for the world to read, rather than tucked in a drawer somewhere. I’m pleased that some of them have been able to make the leap to more mainstream publishing.

    I agree, and I think it is great for them to be able to “publish” and have a large audience available to help them refine their abilities.
