More about the flood at University of Hawai’i

“The fire alarm went off prior to the flood and everyone in LIS 650 dutifully exited the building in a calm and orderly fashion. Moments later, the group got an all clear and went back inside. Approximately 10 minutes after this photo was taken, they’d be breaking a window in order to escape the flood.”

“Our entire department, including all the student records from the LIS department office, furniture, books, computers, and several non-load bearing walls have been destroyed. The force of the flood was such that it tore doors off of walls, collapsed walls, mangled elevator doors, and drove filing cabinets through windows.”

The map collection, which contained many one-of-a-kind historic Hawaiian maps is gone. … The entire backlogged collection of new acquisitions are gone, too. On the plus side — no more backlog for the cataloging department.”
