Martin Amis Tells Muslims “Get Tough”, Critics Balk

Critics, especially Marxist critic Terry Eagleton, is strongly condeming what novelist Martin Amis (son of Kingsley) said on the subject of modern Muslims in The Guardian UK. Amis proposed that the Muslim community ‘get its house in order’ and make sure that future generations not become enticed by fanaticism.

Here’s Amis statement: “”The Muslim community,” he wrote, “will have to suffer until it gets its house in order. What sort of suffering? Not letting them travel. Deportation – further down the road. Curtailing of freedoms. Strip-searching people who look like they’re from the Middle East or from Pakistan … Discriminatory stuff, until it hurts the whole community and they start getting tough with their children…””

Read the commentary by Terry Eagleton here and here, from Ginny Dougary, are Amis original remarks.
