Louise Rachael Levy Schaper : Modern librarian

North West Arkansas News has a nice profile of Louise Schaper, the “petite, spunky director of the Fayetteville Public Library.”

Though she started her career creating virtual libraries, Schaper now says public libraries are “symbolic of our free society.” “We believe that we need to have the best works, not just the best sellers,” she says. “In a university town, one of the major attractions for people is generally a public library that is better than a public library in a noncollege town — because people are education focused and they do take reading and they take knowledge of authors and their works very seriously.”
