Loss of libraries curtails more than books – it kills ideas

The Buffalo News Continues To Cover the closing of libraries here in Erie County. They say the community loses many precious resources when libraries are cut
The fundamental role of the public library is to provide free access to ideas for everyone – computers and Internet access for people who don’t have them, books and DVDs for people who can’t afford them, and librarians who can answer just about any question.

Just about any??

    Don’t really care
    I think libraries are closing in places where the community does not really care enough whether libraries close or not. We all know how important libraries are to communities, yet politicians and government are closing libraries and cutting funding to libraries. Those that govern don’t care about libraries because those that are governed don’t care either. If the people care, then make libraries an issue and make their vote count in the next election, if they turn up to vote at all.

    Well – in Tonawanda at least – the towns people showed up at the polls with
        torches – and voted the bums out! All 3 incumbent town council people that
        paid no attention to the library issues – were voted OUT of office!
