The London Book Project is a scheme attempting to use the London Underground as a venue for a massive, and anonymous, book swapping ground. The project participants will distribute thousands of second-hand books throughout the Tubes and encourage others to do the same. The idea is simple, find a book, pick it up, read it, replace it or replace it with another book of your choice.
This is the kind of thing that gives new meaning to the term “underground library.”
What a neat idea!
…too bad it wouldn’t work in the city where I live.
I don’t think they’ve thought it through
For one thing it is littering. Have they got permissions from London Underground to do this?
It could also even be considered a security risk.
We don’t even have bins on the underground or tube stations for that reason.
Nice idea though.
BookCrossing
Similar to this, I just recently stumbled onto BookCrossing when I saw a BC book basket at a Chicago Panera Bread. I’m trying it out. I guess it’s fairly global, too. http://www.bookcrossing.com
