Local readers prefer their library card to credit

Some News From Home, here in Buffalo, on the findings in a University of Wisconsin-Whitewater study of how literary the nation’s biggest cities are. But Buffalo ranked very highly – fifth, in fact – on one index of reading habits: public library use and the size of the local library’s collection, which is one of the biggest per capita in the country.

The city ranked 41st out of the 64 cities when it came to the number of bookstores per capita – old books, new books, independent stores, chains.
