Fire damages Sioux Center Public Library, arson suspected

Arson is suspected in a fire that heavily damaged the Sioux Center Public Library early Wednesday morning, blackening a hub of activity in the Sioux County, Iowa, town.

An investigation conducted by the Iowa State Fire Marshal, Sioux Center Volunteer Fire Department and the Sioux Center Police Department has revealed the cause of the fire is arson from vandalism.

Sioux Center Fire Chief Dave Van Holland said the fire was reported at about 4:15 a.m. at the library located at 327 First Ave. NE. When he arrived on scene, he said, flames were visible burning through the roof of the single-story wood structure and out of the east front window.
