Library’s Teen Web Site has Mom Steamed

A Maryland mother is appalled at what she found while surfing her local library’s web site.     Several thoughts
    1) The newspaper article fails to name the county. It is Baltimore county, but since the article is more than 3 paragraphs the county name could have been included

    2) The BCPL.INFO website sucks. It does not work well in Opera or Mozilla. To find the link in question I had to use MSIE.

    3) The link bcteen.info fails with a cannot find server error.

    4)Good for the mother that she cares about what her children see on, or linked from the library website.

    5)If the mother thinks her kids have not seen lesbian sex with monkeys and tractors or whatever else is available on the Internet she is really deluded. However she may indeed supervise her children, and judging from her inspection of the site before her children used it she seems the responsible parent.

    Its not just an issue about what kids see and don’t see. Its a question of perception. If a creepy guy is standing on a corner saying “Hey! Wanna see lesbians have sex with monkeys?” most normal kids would run away from it. A librarian linking to something like that on a YA website gives it a level of respectability it doesn’t derserve.

    Its a pretty hefty chain, not just a couple small links. I understand you’re point, and its fair, but while the chain does have to end, it still has to exist in some form.
