Dozens of employees who head up media centers and libraries in Atlanta Public Schools are being transferred into teacher positions to replace educators removed following the test cheating scandal.
Some of the media specialists being placed in teacher positions contacted Channel 2’s Tom Regan to complain that they are not prepared to lead a classroom even though they are certified to teach.
“I haven’t taught elementary level education in 21 plus years,” one employee wrote in an email.

Sounds shady
Is it just me or does it seem like the school board is using the test cheating scandal as an excuse to get rid of its media specialist positions? Anyone know if they have plans to eventually hire new teachers, or new media specialists?
Also, you can’t have it both ways…
The library staff in L.A. who were cut were pilloried for “not being teachers.”
Now these media specialists are complaining about being moved into teacher positions because “they’re not teachers”?
Are school librarians teachers or are they not teachers? Granted, this will depend on state certification requirements…but as a profession, it would be nice if we could be consistent about the whole damn thing…
