Library may slash weekend hours

Derek Wilmott writes “Shelly Hill writes Another Story about another public library that is facing the difficult decision to slash weekend hours or eliminate their bookmobile.

“The Richland County Public Library is threatening to cut back weekend hours or eliminate the bookmobile if County Council doesn’t increase its funding.

Under the county’s proposed $407 million budget to be considered tonight, the library would receive $13.2 million, a $700,000 increase over last year.

Library officials say that’s not enough. They say they need $173,000 more than the county is offering.”
