Library celebrates 100th birthday in style

About 1,100 people turned out at the main branch of the Nashville Public Library yesterday for the institution’s 100th birthday.

The city’s first public library, the Carnegie Library of Nashville, opened Sept. 19, 1904, on the downtown site now occupied by the Ben West Library, which is serving as City Hall while work continues on the courthouse.
