Link to Planned Parenthood is challenged

Oh goodie…

A bit of hypocrisy on the part of the Catholic church perhaps? It seems strange for an organization now mired in scandal to complain about links on library sites that they have absolutely no control over.

And if one is to remove links from state run sites that promote particular point of views, then I’m sorry, the entire website for state and local governments have to come down. See there’s these things called bills, you know, documents that aren’t laws yet. And since they’re not laws, but merely suggestions for laws, then they promote a particular point of view don’t they?

And I think taking the whole “promoting safe sex rather than abstinence” thing to a library website is just intensely stupid. Teenagers are wired for sex and have been since the dawn of humankind. It was a survival mechanism for a time when life was harsh, survivability was difficult, and a long life span was unheard of. So as soon as the male and female can breed, they should, in order to perpetuate the species. After all, a sabertooth tiger might get them tomorrow. I realize that times have changed, but our bodies really haven’t. Obviously this is arguing an evolutionary standpoint against a creationist point of view, but I think even the Catholic Church would concede that nature (and thus God?) makes us want to have sex right around 13 years old.

Having a look at the South Dakota website, I see plenty of stuff pushing various positions. Apparently public television will enrich my life. Will it? Maybe I find cable documentary channels and BBC America more enriching. Then there’s a note from Governor Rounds himself saying that people should be involved in selecting the design for the South Dakota quarter. Then we’ve got tons of the aforemetioned bills. One is to provide two high school programmes. Another wants to remove some restrictions from the Bureau of Information and Telecommunications. Hrmm. Sounds like pushing particular points of view to me.
