Janet Clark sent in this piece from the Halifax Chronicle-Herald: “LIBRARY BOARD ON THE LINE:
Councillor targets highly paid CEO in bid to be ‘fiscally prudent’
The city’s deputy mayor wants to close the book on the highly paid chief executive officer of Halifax’s library system.
In a surprise notice of motion at the end of Tuesday night’s council meeting, Steve Streatch informed council that he wants staff to look into axing the entire library board.”

    Big bucks?
    So a woman in charge of 14 libraries makes just about $90,000 US?

    That doesn’t seem extraordinarily high to me.

    [It may be higher than a lot of systems heads make, but that’s not the same thing. And I agree that it’s a nice salary…also not the same thing.]

    MLS means Makes Less Salary.

    If this was any other field, this would not be an issue.

    Ah, but that’s a woman who is making more than a man who is in a position to cut the purse strings. I wonder how much I should read into that situation. If Deputy Dawg is so hellbent on saving money by cutting duplicate positions then maybe someone should start with him since what do you need a deputy mayor for if you’ve also got the real thing?
