Over at boingboing.net, there is a link to a fake car inspection sticker where the ‘artist’ used a library bar code sticker. In the original post linked from boingboig, posters are debating what the library bar cose is supposed to be linked to. Can anyone shed any light on this?”
it’s from a library card
it’s just a bar code from a library card, that’s the exact same way our library used to do them. In fact I had to squint pretty closely to make sure it wasn’t from my old library.
To identify the book
Most library systems now have a bar-code on the library card, and a bar-code sticker stuck to each book.
That makes checking out the book as simple as scanning both bar-codes, then the computer knows who has what book without someone having to type all the information in.
The mystery has been solved!
A poster on the original blog solved the mystery of what item or patron card it came off of –
“OK…I love solving a mystery so I did a little “undercover” work.
That barcode belongs to a DVD from the Portland (Maine) Reiche Branch Library. It has been overdue since July 2005.
And the title of the DVD? …drumroll…
Star Wars Episode 6: Return of the Jedi”
