Libraries still devastated by Hurricanes Rita & Katrina

KATC.com reports Eight of New Orleans’ 13 libraries are still closed because of damage from Hurricane Katrina, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency has taken over one-quarter of the main library. Hurricane Rita flattened four of the libraries in Cameron Parish, on the western end of the state.

They’re just a few of the 25 public library systems damaged by the hurricanes in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. University and school libraries also suffered major damage. Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma damaged or destroyed dozens of colleges and universities and more than 1,100 schools.
