Some interesting statistics from The Economist:
The Economist says “The land of mountains and cattle boasts some of America’s best public libraries.” They cite examples of both large and small libraries in Wyoming and “the conservative rural heartlands,” Laramie, Cheyenne and Burns in southern Wyoming.
good marketing done right
Wyoming created and carried out a great marketing campaign state wide for their libraries. More info here: http://www.wyominglibraries.org/campaign.html and http://www.hwwilson.com/jcdawards/jcdwin2007.htm. In 2007, they won the John Cotton Dana Award. It looks like they’re still doing good publicity and outreach if The Economist is picking up the story. I say great for them! (I’m not from there, btw, just an admirer of their marketing work)
a great day
If state library associations and the bulk of ALA would devote themselves to stuff like this it would be a great day for the sisterhood. No more work-dodging meetings and lunches, no more library directors puffing themselves up. More more pointless, deep-as-wikipedia continuing ed. classes.
Just good solid marketing.
A girl can dream.
