Libraries find a hot ticket in DVD rentals

Anonymous Patron writes North Jersey News Reports North Jerseyans have made DVDs the fastest-growing circulated item in many area libraries.
“In less than three years, DVD collections in BCCLS libraries are at levels that took more than 10 years to achieve with VHS,” said Robert White, executive director of the Bergen County Cooperative Library System, which includes all 62 Bergen County libraries and 11 in Passaic, Essex and Hudson counties.

The rapidly rising popularity of DVDs, and corresponding decline of videotapes, at libraries is a natural result of DVDs eclipsing VHS as the format of choice for movie renters. DVDs now dominate rental store shelves, and a quality DVD player can be purchased for under $100, something not possible four years ago.”
