Librarians wonder about savings’ cost

Qualified school librarians running well-staffed and organized libraries were the one constant variable contributing to higher test scores.
But in Monroe Wisconsin school district administrators laid out $2 million in budget cuts for the 2006-07 school year, which included eliminating four of the district’s five librarian positions.
“You can throw money at the problem but we’re the silent provider, making sure everything else works,” Heitkamp said.
