Just days after it opened, Ontario’s (California) new main library was attacked Vandals left their mark on the walls of the elevator and the bathrooms, making the new facility the latest front in an ongoing battle against graffiti.
The fact that taggers so quickly and easily hit the library a point of civic pride for the city government was upsetting to many officials.
“It’s disgusting when people deface our greatest projects overnight,” said Mayor Paul Leon at Tuesday’s City Council meeting.

Fines not enough
Fines are simply not enough to deter vandals like these. Far more serious penalties should apply. For starters, they should be forced to clean the mess up they created in front of public view or on national television and publicly apologise over and over again.
