Anti-war inquiry unrelated to terror

I think we missed the Follow Up on a grand jury inquiry involving four peace activists and Drake University. Suggestions that the investigation is related to the Patriot Act “are not accurate.”

Twelve activists were arrested Nov. 16, most for trespassing. A Grinnell College librarian also was charged with assault after she allegedly kicked a sheriff’s deputy during her arrest.

McCarthyism Watch from the Progressive covers this one as well. Other stories at THe Nashville City Paper, they say slippery slope that civil libertarians feared when the Patriot Act was enacted is now in sight.

    Yeah, I was tracking that story with the intention of submitting it but I got sidetracked by classes and homework. If you’re interested in just a quick run down you can get a capsule summary of most of this affair at my site. Here are some other links to articles and commentary as it unfolded and reached its tentative resolution:

    The breaking story was published at Truthout.org on 07 Feb, and at the
    First Amendment Center on 09 Feb. FAC is often days behind with it reports. Both sites have the same article; FAC gets them off the wire and copies them without any editorial changes, as near as I can tell.

    There was a follow up article at FAC on 10 Feb.

    There is an article about the feds backing down at the First Amendment Center, by AP, of course, and with a slightly different slant than the one at Des Moines Register, which article was also reprinted at Freedom Of Information Center.
