Librarian’s texting skills spell out New York trip

Axelrod, who sends about 1,000 texts each month, went on to win the San Diego regional contest and flew to New York City last month to vie for the $50,000 prize in the national text-messaging competition by LG. Competing with Axelrod were 11 contestants from across the nation.

Axelrod was eliminated in the first round, but that did not surprise her. She had to get used to the LG ENV, a phone that was different from her iPhone, which has a touch screen. Axelrod also had to deal with bright lights and had to look up constantly to read the long phrase that was beamed on a plasma screen high on the wall.
