…so says Barbara Vey in her blog at Publishers Weekly about the RWA Conference in hot Dallas.
“Today was all about the librarians. In a program founded by author and former librarian Cathie Linz, the librarians were treated to a breakfast and speeches by Suzanne Brockmann and Shana Abe (who wasn’t warned that she had to give a speech, poor thing. She was still delightful). The librarians were then allowed in the goody room where they could stock up on free books, bookmarks and a variety of author giveaways. Then came a workshop hosted by Susan Elizabeth Phillips and Jayne Ann Krentz, who clearly had worked together before and taunted each other to the delight of the audience. Nora Roberts was the guest speaker at the luncheon and the group received a copy of her book High Noon.”
Great program
Cathie has been running this program since at least 2002. It’s a great opportunity for librarians local to the conference site, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in learning more about the romance genre. Plus, it’s fairly cheap, especially considering how many free books you get at it. Here’s a list of the upcoming RWA conference sites: RWA – Future Conference sites.
Cathie Linz
This is Cathie’s last year running the librarian day for this. She has done a wonderful job. She received several standing ovations yesterday when I went. So the next time you see her, please tell her thank you for doing a wonderful VOLUNTEER job for so many years. She started the whole librarian day years upon years ago and has truly reached out to the library community to help the authors and librarians meet and understand each others needs for so long.
She said that the RWA has decided to make the library liaison a paying position from now on so library day at RWA isn’t going away, it’s just changing leadership.
