Librarians find the weirdest things in returned books
Chandler librarians say they routinely find oddities between the pages of returned books: from cash and lottery tickets to love letters. And patrons rarely come back to claim the stuff.
One of the most common – and unpleasant – discoveries is toilet paper, said Marj Pals, a library aide at the Sunset Branch Library.
Correction
Shouldn’t that read “library staff find the weirdest things in returned books”? There aren’t any librarians who work the check-in desk at my library.
correction to the correction
I do know at least 3 librarians (with master’s degrees) that do work circulation. Generally, I’d say those are the exception though.
Any we all know the media and general public never understand or acknowledge the different levels of library staff. We’re all librarians in their eyes.
Objects found in books
Way back in the “Sixties” I created a display of items found in books during a year. Among the numerous used matchsticks, cigarette buttsand papers, was a wad of £5 notes, and other currencies, hand bills, reciepts, and torn newspapers.the weirdest things, however, were pieces of bacon rhind, toast, and stale bread. I called the display “These you have soiled” and it caused a lot of comment among our readers.
