A Little Blurb From TX says A school librarian at Oñate High School has resigned after pornography was discovered on a library computer, Las Cruces Public School District officials said Wednesday.
David Winkles resigned as librarian Friday. He had been employed at the Oñate library since February.
The district is investigating how the material was accessed. The user couldn’t be identified.
“One computer had inappropriate material that we certainly wouldn’t want students or staff looking at,” said Jo Galvan, communications and policy development director.
What, no filtering software?
Assuming that the librarian did NOT do this peeking himself, how can he police every URL visited? Did it even happen during library hours? Who else had a key to the room? Whose password was used to login? The article’s rather short and devoid of useful details.
The librarian resigning suggests, of course, that the librarian DID do it. I don’t know why he didn’t kill off the cache if he was the one. A browser-illiterate librarian? Hard to believe.
Thank goodness
If the librarian did do this I am glad he didn’t throw up the “I was doing research” line.
